See what you’ll keep after eBay’s final value fee, which is charged on your item price, the shipping you charge and sales tax.

Your sale
Field help Sale price: the item price the buyer pays, before shipping and tax. Buyer shipping: what you charge the buyer for shipping. Sales tax: collected and remitted by the marketplace, but some platforms charge fees on it. Applied to item + shipping. Your shipping label cost (under More options): leave it blank to assume it equals the shipping you charged. You paid for it: what the item cost you, so "you keep" is your real profit.

Calculating…

Start selling on eBay Goes to eBay's official seller page. Not an affiliate link.

eBay charges a final value fee on the total amount of the sale: item price, shipping and handling you charge, and sales tax. Pick your category under Category & more in the calculator above.

How eBay calculates the fee

  • Final value fee is a % of the total amount of the sale: item price + buyer-paid shipping/handling + sales tax. Plus a per-order fee of $0.30 (order total $10.00 or less) or $0.40 (over $10.00).
  • Insertion fee: first 250 listings per month free, then $0.35 per listing (Guitars & Basses free; athletic shoes free if the starting price is $150 or more).
  • No separate payment-processing fee; it is included in the final value fee.

Worked examples from eBay's fee page

  • $400 Buy It Now, free shipping, 6% tax = $424 total. Final value fee 13.6% of $424 + $0.40 = $58.06; with the $0.35 insertion fee, total fees $58.41 and you make $341.59.
  • $9,500 trading card, free shipping, 6% tax = $10,070 total. 13.25% of $7,500 + 2.35% of $2,570 + $0.40 = $1,054.55. (eBay's example also adds a $0.35 insertion fee and a $4.00 Bold upgrade.)

This site's test suite checks the calculator against both examples.

How the math works, what we assume, and where eBay's fee rules come from.

How we calculate

We take your sale price, the shipping you charge and the buyer's sales tax, apply eBay's published US fee rules (linked under Sources), then subtract your shipping label and what you paid for the item. Each fee is rounded to the cent. It is an estimate: your platform statement is the final word.

What we assume

US seller, US buyer, US dollars, one item per order, standard account in good standing, no promotions, ads, refunds, currency conversion or instant-payout fees. Sales tax is collected and remitted by the marketplace, so it is never part of your payout, but eBay, Whatnot (processing), Depop and Etsy (processing) still charge a percentage on it. "Payout" is what the platform sends you; "profit" also subtracts your label and item cost. Each fee line is rounded to the cent.
